Chaos Death Wheel Conversion Step by Step

This is a moderate conversion and pretty quick to make.

Bases and Tracks

First I glued together the two 40mm round bases with the flat sides facing out on each side. I matched up the Circles on the underside of the bases and glued those together. Do not glue the outer edge. The seam is beveled where the two bases meet to a point.

After the bases dried I cut off the beveled edge with my jewelers saw to create a flat surface for the tank track to go onto. It does not have to be super perfect the tank tracks hide the outer edge so it can cover some minor imperfections.

Next I bent the tank tracks slightly between each track to curve the tracks so they will match the 40mm bases. I glued on the tank tracks starting with the longer piece first, then the other long piece, next the "2" piece and last the "1" piece. The tracks do not fit perfectly, but just slide the "2" & "1" piece so they look evenly spaced. Then just glue the Death Wheel onto the base with the "2" & "1" piece on the bottom so any gravel & flock will hide them. Though with just the tracks glued on I could barely notice the difference in the track spacing.

Next I cut off the longer spikes on all four of the Chaos Spike Rings. (the spikes colored red)
For the side sponsons I glued the Imperial Cupola to the upper inside of one Chaos Spiky Rings. This created half the circle. Next I glued a second Chaos Spiky Ring to make the complete circle. Be sure to glue the Cupola to the inside of the ring, not on Top. The cupola will not fit correctly on top of ring. I created both the left and right sponsons this way. Now for the weapons turrets. I cut off each of the inside linked lascannons from the Epic Chaos Landraider Turret. I also cut out a small U shape for the battle cannon to fit in between the new reaper autocannons. (click on the image to see a larger picture).

The battle cannon is just the ends of the Chaos Autocannon. (I cut off everything colored red). I choose the autocannon because of the heads looking Chaosy and I felt it added to the model. I know the old plastic Chaos Autocannons are difficult to find. You can easily make a battle cannon out of something easier to find, ie. how I created the battle cannon for my Defiler.

Then I glued the battle cannon into the U slot that is between the reaper autocannons on the turret. I did the same thing for the other turret making it a mirror image of the first.

The void shield generator was pretty easy. I cut off the very top deck of the BFG Chaos Tower and glued it on to the bolter mounts of the Imperial Cupola. Then I used the extra skulls from my Defiler conversion and glued them on the void shield generator. (Never waste a usable piece. You will be surprised at what cut off pieces you can re-use else where).
To finish up the sponson I glued the turret piece to the center of the sponson. It almost fit perfectly into place. I did have to file the plastic cupola a little. After the turret was glued into place I filled two gaps with a circle cut out of thin cardboard glued into the inside of the sponson and added some chaosy symbols to cover the two holes on the turret. I made the second sponson the same way. (click on the image for a larger picture).
All that was left was to glue the sponsons on to each side, then to the base and add some battle damage. That is it. Finished!!! (click on the image for a larger picture).
